Project Overview

For my Digital Literacies class, my teammate and I created two PDFs and one HTML5 output using Madcap Flare. The goal of this project was to use MadCap Flare’s single-sourcing capabilities to export DITA-based content like concepts, references, and tasks.

The XML editor in MadCap Flare showcases the work that I put into creating the seamless usability of single-sourced outputs. I applied keywords (highlighted in green) and variables (highlighted in gray) to commonly used acronyms, terms, or equipment that users may search.

Madcap Flare used the keywords and variables I created to generate an index in the PDF output. The index helped increase findability for users.

My teammate and I customized the HTML5 output in Madcap Flare by using a side navigation instead of a top navigation to create greater visibility within each category.

We also rearranged content in a more logical way for the reader and created subcategories if applicable.

The keywords and variables also proved useful for the search function in the HTML5 output by increasing search results.
