Flyers
Project Overview
I created a design portfolio as the final deliverable in my Designing Technical Documents class. The portfolio was comprised of flyers, a multipage document, and an infographic.
Skills
- CRAP method
- Grids
- Information design
- Visual hierarchy
Tools
- Adobe Express
- Adobe InDesign

I redesigned the “before” flyer using contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity (CRAP) methods to create the
“after” flyer.
Eliminating the busy background and using a consistent typeface enhanced readability.
I added a border around the flyer to prevent the White Space Is Not Your Enemy design sin of naked photos. The border also created cohesion with the line delineators that separated helpful information for users.

I restructured the content in this event flyer to fit the grid I created. I utilized white space to create an impact for the critical information of the event: when, where, and cost.
Extracting the when, where, and cost information from the text not only highlighted the most important details for the users, but it also balanced the heavy paragraphs.
I created consistency in the paragraphs by:
- Standardizing the time suffixes
- Selecting one font
- Eliminating orphans

I used the Works-Every-Time Layout from White Space Is Not Your Enemy to create this flyer about a fundraising event.
First, I created columns for the flyer using Adobe InDesign. Then, I added the margins inside the grid to ensure content was visible and had space to breathe.
Furthermore, I added a visual at the top to create a focal point for users’ eyes, and I placed the bold headline in close proximity to the image to create unity and scannability.
Next, I chose a font to match the theme of the event. Lastly, I placed the logo and website in the bottom-right corner as a call-to-action for users.
