Project Overview

I was hired on with Prodigy Commercial HVAC for a 10-week internship as a technical writer. I created a PowerPoint presentation detailing my experience in creating procedures for the billing, customer service, and operations departments.

Skills

  • Audience analysis
  • CRAP method
  • Information design
  • Presentation best practices

Tools

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

I implemented the contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity (CRAP) method when designing my presentation.

First, I used a white background to create contrast against the company’s punchy logo. Next, I maintained brand consistency by repeatedly using the logo or the hexagon shape in every slide. Then, I created sharp left alignment with the heading and the bullet points. Lastly, I maintained proximity of information and or visuals to their relevant counterparts.

I knew the primary audience of my presentation was UNT students who were eager to learn about tech comm jobs and internships; I wanted to create a presentation that was visually engaging and optimistic.

In keeping with presentation best practices, I limited the amount of text and incorporated visuals as much as possible. This is why even the “about the presentation” slide was more visual than an ordered list.
